brothers

soooo i'm almost 23 weeks along and definitely looking it these days. ;) i've got a bump, which i stretch most of my regular clothes right over -- maternity clothes are SO baggy and gross, i just can't bring myself to wear them most days -- and i've been feeling this little guy wiggle around for two months now.

that's right -- it's a GUY! in seattle, they don't do the gender-check ultrasound until 20 weeks (this is weird to me since we found out around 16 weeks with jack) so a few weeks ago b and i met up for an afternoon date at the hospital and got to see our little baby again. the tech had asked us if we wanted to know the gender and of course we'd said yes, but she announced "it's a BOY!" so quickly and abruptly that i was still a little shocked. mostly because i'd had a feeling this one was a girl (so obviously, judging by my track record, my motherly instinct is completely non-existent). the shock wore off super quick, though, and was replaced by excitement -- i LOVE being a mom to a boy, so to have two boys back to back i'm feeling pretty lucky. i can't wait to have two little buddies running around together! but this also means that the next one better FREAKING be a girl. ;)

jack is just starting to come around to the idea of a baby and i'm pretty optimistic about the whole transition process. we've been reading books about new babies and pointing out real-life babies when we see them, and talking about how he will become a big brother soon. then, this afternoon i went to get him out of his room after quiet time, and he was kneeling on the floor next to his teddy bear who was all wrapped up in the blankets from jack's bed. when i walked in, jack said, "hi mommy! i put blankets on my baby brother. i take care of him." i thought my heart was going to explode from the cuteness. we talked about how jack was being so nice to the baby and that he was sleeping, and jack asked if we could sing "i am a child of god" (the song we sing to him at bedtime every night) so we did, with jack singing right along with me. and that was when i knew this whole two-kid thing was definitely going to work out.

the jackal

this kid is the cutest lately. sure, he's still full of WAY too many tantrums and physical abuse moments directed at me, but most of the time he's pretty fun. last week we were both craving a sprinkled donut so i took him out for a little date while we were running errands. he was literally hopping up and down saying "i'm getting a spwinkled donut!" while peering into the case. it was so fun to sit at the table in krispy kreme and eat our donuts and talk about birds and race cars (? - his topics of choice).

my other favorite thing of late is that he will say "love you too!" whenever i tell him i love him. but it sounds more like "yuv you too!" it's adorable. he also rocks the pleases and thank yous and will always say please two times when you tell him to ask nicely, as in "pwease more cereal pwease!" kids are so exhausting...and so fun. :)
