a day with jack

today was b's first day back to work. my mom left on saturday :( so this was my first official day on my own with jacko...i was nervous, since i've been a tad bit weepy the past few days [just clearing out my hormones, right?] and didn't want to have a nervous breakdown, but we did great! good way to celebrate his one-week birthday.

i cleaned up our apartment, crossed some admin things off my to do list, wrote to my missionary brother and even took a shower. i also did laundry, which was much needed because baby j is going through laundry like it's going out of style. he went through four different outfits in the past 24 hours:
a. diaper leaked onto outfit #1
b. when i changed his diaper at 5 a.m. he PEED -- my first experience with getting sprayed during a changing, but he shot himself right in the face / hat / pjs and not at me so i'm cool with it
c. 20 minutes later, after i'd fed him, he launched the biggest spit up attack i've ever seen come out of him, all over outfit #3
d. but he's managed to keep the cute dinosaur footy pajamas on ever since then, so i'll call it a win.

of course, all this took way longer than it should have. it's amazing how long it takes me to get things done when i stop to take care of my baby throughout the day. i haven't even checked my google reader in four days, which is a big deal.

we'd also been having some issues with the whole breastfeeding thing -- around 2 a.m. last night i was about ready to throw in the towel and just give him formula forever. it is SO much harder than i thought it would be! but the good news is, today was so so much better for both of us and i'm really happy. guess i'll keep at it :)

top photo and the ones below are from a photo shoot we did with my friend tiffany [of the maternity shoot fame] on saturday. i love them. more to come when i get the proofs.

You look awesome, girl! And yes, breastfeeding is one of the hardest things I ever have done in my life!!! But it was SOOOOO much easier with the second baby. . . hang in there! He is a cutie! Love his wispy hair!

Exactly right :)..getting out the hormones. It's true! haha.

WOW, I can't believe you got all that done today. Don't be afraid to have a day where you don't accomplish anything but eating and hanging out with the babes.

Good luck with the bfing progression. I hope Jack catches on quickly! Just remember though, you are doing a great job and no decision you make is wrong.

Oh, and Jack is SUPER cute. I love that little face.

Don't be surprised if those hormones flare up again when you least expect it. Actually, I'll tell you when to expect it. THREE WEEKS. By then you will be sufficiently sleep deprived. Help will be gone and any meals brought in or leftovers frozen will be consumed. You think you've lived without sleep before but never sleeping longer than four hours for weeks straight is enough to put you over the edge. Maybe it will be better for you. BUt I've lost it FOUR times right about week THREE.

Also, something else that nobody tells you - newborns don't know how to breastfeed without practice and new mommies have to relearn with each kid. Just when you think you've got it figured, baby has a growth spurt or gets a cold and throws everything off.

You are doing great!!! You look adorable with your Jack bundle.

I loved reading Jack's birth story! I wish that you could ease into the motherhood role, but unfortunately it just doesn't happen that way and it all comes rushing at you at once! He is so stinking cute, I can hardly stand it! I can't wait to meet him....and maybe steal him!

Oh, Lyndsey, what a sweet baby. Being a mom is wonderful. Do you remember starting a new job and how hard that is as you learn everything you have to do? Well, this is the hardest job you'll ever have, and the learning curve is a lot steeper. And your boss is a tiny precious tyrant. But you'll figure out what works for both of you. Don't let anyone make you feel guilty for the choices you make, because you're going to do what's best for Jack and what's best for you, because that is also what's best for Jack. Happy mom=happy baby.

Most of all, enjoy him. You won't believe how quickly he'll grow and you'll hardly remember these early days.

I LOVED this post. Seriously, pretty sure I was grinning through the entire thing. Starting with your a-d list of Jack's outfits :) Cute little fella.

Good job on being productive! I LOVED having a good chat with you yesterday, and have to say I am super impressed that you managed to do so many things in one day with a ONE week old.

And, my new favorite picture is the 2nd to the last one of Baby J. He really is a cutie, and I'm not just saying that.

First of all, what a rock star you are for getting all that stuff done just one week after giving birth. And second, what a cute little guy you have! ...And nursing? Oy. Just two days ago I told myself: I quit. And we're three months into it. For some ridiculous reason I keep trudging along with it though. Probably because we're too poor for a full-on formula diet. :) I feel your pain. I feel your pain. I can't wait to see you again and meet adorable little Jack!
