hazardous commute

today i was riding the subway and some random man was singing songs about being saved by jesus. another man (don't know race, appearance, etc. -- i don't like to make eye or even face contact with strangers on the train) started yelling at him to shut up. it escalated quickly and they were getting all fired up. i was really ready to get off, even though i only had two stops to go.

the whole time i just kept thinking about how pissed i'd be if i died from randomly getting shot by a stray bullet in the case of train violence. no one pulled a weapon or anything, but seriously -- wouldn't that suck?

ornaments

sometimes i just sit and look at my tree...i love christmas time and i've always had a thing for watching my christmas tree and thinking about all the great things in this season of the year.

our first married christmas, my MIL asked me what "color" our christmas tree was. (she's way into home decorating etc. and each of her TWO christmas trees are color coordinated down to ribbons and ornaments. beautiful...but not my thing.) uh...color? my tree is decorated with a million special, different, random ornaments -- but each one brings back great memories. i now present to you the best of the best...

here's one we got on our honeymoon in hawaii:

and some new additions from our recent europe trip. this one is from germany:

and guess where this one is from... (how CUTE is it? husband picked this one out all on his own and i love it.)

this is another of my faves. we got engaged at the top of the empire state building in 2006 (a location that had long been one of my favorite places, thanks to years of watching sleepless in seattle) so i love it even more now. my mom gave us this one to commemorate:

here's one of the salt lake temple where we were married:

my cute cousin made this for us our first christmas. i hadn't seen her in years but she was thoughtful enough to mail this homemade baby all the way from florida:

and this is one of my very first ornaments -- my mom saved it and put it on our family tree for a long time. it says 1989 on the back...as you can see, 80's stickers don't retain their adhesiveness all that well:

yay yay more christmas fun to come :)

under construction

my workplace currently looks like this:

the office is filled with construction workers all day who are supposed to be doing "quiet work" (the "loud work" is for after hours) but today they were banging and scraping and yelling all day.

my apartment complex looks like this:

say goodbye to the purple buena vista. they're ripping off the roof, painting the walls, doing general construction. these workers are loud too. and now my complex smells like smoke and paint, instead of just smoke.

also, they painted our balcony while we were in utah and moved our satellite dish. i know this because there is paint UNDER our satellite dish, and it doesn't work at all so the directv people told us it was probably disconnected. now i have to pay to have the repairman come out, AND he can't come until saturday.

NO TV ALL WEEK. not that i'm addicted to tv or anything, but it is nice to watch jon & kate or top chef while i make dinner. (husband is pining for the simpsons.) i haven't missed it too much yet but thursday will be rough -- no survivor, the office or 30 rock :(

and while i'm on it, let me say that directv SUCKS. we have had them for only 7 months and already we've had multiple problems. technicians have come out three times, in addition to all the times my macgyver husband jiggled the dish enough to fix the random problems. the customer service peeps are nice enough on the phone, but seriously. i wish the stupid thing would just work.

my favorite girl

because i have no children, i instead post pictures of my dog.

she was extra cuddly last night at my parents' because she is still recovering (three days later) from a turkey overdose. it's funny what that tryptophan will do to a five-pound dog.

it's beginning to look a lot like christmas...

today i woke up to no milk for my cereal, no food for my lunch, a popped kitchen sink pipe and full-blown allergies. (and seriously? waking up at 6:30 after a week of sleeping in till 9 a.m.? no good.)

awesome.

then i saw these guys in union station, playing christmas music, and my mood was lifted:

it's december 1! christmas is on it's way.

and just for good measure, here's a picture of the amazing 20-ft. christmas tree they put up in the lobby of my building every year. it is GORGEOUS.

happy december to all!

a [fantastic] saturday in pictures

[b hacked into our mailbox because our key is in utah. it was impressive.]

[great new frozen yogurt place, squeeze & scoop. as tasty as pinkberry but you get to do your own -- a lyndsey-approved ratio of yogurt, fruit and mochi! perfect!]

i love saturdays.

t-giving week

now that we're home from utah i suppose i can recap our trip.

monday we went to the gateway to do a little shopping and have lunch with b's former boss. while there we had to stop for a picture with b's favorite slc landmark, a giant painted homage to the beatles:

that night we had dinner with my grandparents. grandma is famous for her delicious meals, so this was a fantastic treat even though cooking dinner is a huge project for her these days. i miss g&g a lot so it was great to spend time with them!

my cousins janae and kaylene came too.

b and i spent the next few days just hanging out in sandy, going places in our rival college sweatshirts (everywhere we went people said "look, how funny that one is wearing byu and the other is wearing utah!" yes, hilarious.), sweating it at the gym and playing pool with the in laws.

i was craving some fro yo so we hit up utah's latest craze, spoon me. let's just say it's not quite up to par with my california preferences.

thanksgiving was lovely -- lots of food, family and relaxing. big thanks to the in laws for the yummy food and fun times. (pictures were on the family camera and i haven't gotten them yet.)

and yesterday we flew home. we even got in a little early and didn't miss our flight. yay! it is SO GOOD to be home...back to our own routine and regular california life. and to my pleasant surprise it's a little cooler here now -- maybe in the 60s. definitely my kind of winter weather :)
