on thursday night, we rode the train home from the farmer's market. while walking home from the train station, we saw a blue armchair on the side of the road -- it was in perfect condition and looked good. so good, in fact, that i couldn't decide if it had been left there as a giveaway or if someone was just in the process of moving it.
we went home and i forgot about the chair. later that night, right in the middle of 30 rock, b said "hey! i wonder if that chair is still there!" it had been about three hours since we'd seen it, so i figured if it was still there it was now free game. so we hopped in the car.
and there it was! we were excited. i have no shame when it comes to picking up furniture -- our coffee table, in fact, was rescued from someone's front lawn on trash night a month before we got married. it took a while to figure out how to get it in the car [i ended up riding home in the trunk -- a first for me -- holding onto the chair with one arm and my forehead. fun times] but we made it home in one piece.
so now we have the chair. and i think i want to put it back out on the street:
i sort of like the color, but don't like how it looks with our other furniture. i sort of like the artsy two-sided back instead of the regular three-sided version, but mostly don't. i sort of like finally having another thing to sit on besides our couch, but our front room just feels awkward now that it's there.
b says i should open it up for discussion on this blog and let you guys decide if it stays or goes. what do you think? [and am i a robber for taking this chair after only three hours?]

It's kinda cool. . . Not sure about the color though. Maybe we could recover it and then. . . ;0) (The seamstress in me talking. . .)
I like the chair, I think you should keep it! You are definitely not a thief...it was completely fair game.
I like it!!! it is interesting and fun. you should take a pic of your whole living room so i can see how it "flows" with everything else.
Totally not a robber and I've score many things that way too. I LOVE free/garage sale/second-hand stuff!
As for the chair, it doesn't bother me. I like the color....but I don't think it looks very comfortable. I mean, it looks fine/comfortable. It just looks like you can't relax all that much. So maybe if it's purpose is to be there for entertaining nights (like when you have a fabulous cookie party and need more seating)....then it works great!
But if it feels awwwwwkward in there, then hmmmm.
maybe he has some dark story he wants to share about his former life...
A) No, not a robber. Resourceful and economical!!
B) It is kind of a weird chair. You should keep it for a week, and see if it jives with the room. Just my two cents. But way to score a sweet find!! :-)
if it's functional, keep it. function is great. you could always cover it with some great fabric if you really don't like the color. that color blue makes me happy, so i say keep the chair. :)
I need a picture of the whole room to see if it fits.
Without the whole picture I would say, you can always get a throw and some pillows to help it flow in the room. More seating is always nice.
You are not a robber, first of all. I think it was fair game to take the chair. I'd have to see your room, but it may be nice to have another place to sit. Otherwise, I'll be honest...it looks like it is in great condition, but it looks a little odd to me. I think the whole double back thing is throwing me off. That being said, it's not like you need everything you look perfect in your house...so if it's comfy, keep it!
would totally love a pic of the whole room!
it is a much better looking chair than I was picturing though! kinda like it!
Since your room is eclectic any way, I say the chair should stay. But one very important question: how did you treat the street germs that I'm so sure the chair posesssed? :)
Turn it upside down...lift...and remove it out of the house. I'm sitting here cracking up hoping you don't kill me the next time you see me.....it's ok from the photo but I need to see the ENTIRE room to truly judge.
So I blog hopped over here because I saw your funny comment after Allison's boob story (your comment is exactly what I was thinking) and I saw this post. If you happen to not want the chair could you e mail me (winkieburger1@hotmail.com). We're just over in Alhambra. Thanks (sorry if this is random or weird)
